Many music producers prefer to stick to just production because they see singing as the exclusive right of artistes. There is however a set of beat makers that are so talented and so adventurous they cannot be limited to just music production. They have been singing lately and they have been doing it well too.
Multi-talented act, Maleek Berry, joined the league of producers who double as singers last year with his monster hit track Kontrol which has attracted over 70 million views on Youtube as I write. He has since then been dropping hit upon hit. He finally came up, in the third quarter of 2016 with the Last Daze Of Summer EP which is a huge success. While he was still gliding joyously on the success of his hit records, he delighted us with a brand new dancehall-fused fire called Been Calling.
Popular Nigerian producer, Masterkraft, explored singing last year and it turned out to be success. He started this year with a collaboration with Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie for Just Incase. He slew the hook and has just dropped his much anticipated Unlimited EP which houses super hot tracks as Yapa and Hello.
Sean Tizzle’s producer Black Jerzie most times sing along with Sean Tizzle during production sessions. The savvy beat maker was featured in Like to Party where he rendered his verse excellently. The Esama of Benin as fondly called by friends, is not just a producer but also a super gifted singer.
YBNL’s in-house producer, Pheelz, who already had two singles to his credit thrilled all last year when he released another single titled Do What You Want. The gifted hands cleared our doubts when he served us Honey ft. Reekado Banks, a sample an Indian song which turned out to be a hit single.
While producer cum singer, Mystro, was still enjoying the success of Lagos @ 50, he teamed up with legendary Fuji singer K1 de Ultimate. Not stopping at that, he came through just last week with Issa Vibe featuring Davido which is climbing to the top of many charts by the day.
After some years in oblivion, iconic producer Samklef, returned to the Nigerian music scene last year. This time he upped his game as he started singing himself. He worked hard and eventually came up with singles as Shokologo Bangoshe and Ijo Olowo which are big successes.
Who ever thought legendary producer, Puffy Tee, could sing this much? He showed us his other side when he delighted us two weeks ago, with a fresh Fuji-infused sound named Kokose.
