Del B is one of Nigeria’s biggest producers who has been in the Industry for more than four years now. He was signed to Five Star Music, a record label owned by E Money with Kcee and Harrysong as label mates up till sometime in the third quarter of 2015.
In 2013, Del B was shot into limelight by the production of a smash hit Limpopo for Kcee which won him the best ‘Producer of the Year’ at the 2013 Headies Awards. Lately, I believe less recognition has been accorded him and has been less talked about. The most talked about now are the likes of Don Jazzy, Legendary Beats, Pheelz, Cobhams, Young John and Dr Amir.
There is something about this magical producer: he has a unique way of production. He uses the blend of drums, flute, guitar and claps to craft unique and great beats. Sheyi Shay’s Jangilova which he produced last year is one of such productions.
This is also evident in DJ Neptunes’s So Nice.
He is also flexible with music genres. He does Dancehall to Reggae, Highlife, Afropop and Afrobeat: Jimmy Jatt’s Feeling The Beat is Afrobeat; most of his label mate, Kcee’s songs are Highlife- Limpopo and Fine Face for example; and Orezi’s High BP- although not a hit song probably because it was not well-promoted- is an appealing pop tune.
Let us not forget he was responsible for the production of the almost of the tracks on Kcee’s debut album, Take Over. This album won the ‘Best Pop Album’ at the 2014 Headies Awards.
Del B was a part of album production teams of top DJs like JimmyJatt, Neptune and Xclusive. Last year, He did not only produce DJ Neptune’s So Nice but was also featured alongside Davido- a deeply hypnotic tune. He also produced DJ Xclusive’s Shabba which had Patoranking and Kcee on it.
Del B may not be winning awards back to back but the hits and productions he has to his credit say something: he is master-producer that should never be underrated.
