Great music producers craft instrumentation to whatever music genre brought before them by artistes. However, no matter how versatile you are as a producer, you must have a bias: Producers as Sossick, E-Kelly and Pheelz are well-known to be Hip-Hop producers; Masterkraft, Popito and Young John could be referred to as dance song specialists; while Kiddominant and DJ Coublon could be put in the category of Afropop producers.
Oscar’s bias is the Nigerian alternative music genre where artistes as Adekunle Gold and Simi belong to. In case you don’t know, the super producer is responsible for the production of ‘Orente’ and has carved himself a niche on the Nigerian music scene with his uncommon sounds that send one into a reflective mood. Unlike many producers who hardly make use of musical instruments and rely mostly on sound effects, Oscar’s production sounds more like live music because of the dominance of drums and guitar sounds.
His latest works are no exception as he brought back the magic of the instrumentation of ‘Orente’ on ‘Fight for You’ and ‘No Forget’ which are great love tracks off Adekunle Gold’s ‘Gold’ album. Watch out for the producer who hatched Simi’s ‘Love Don’t Care’. He is taking the Nigerian alternative music to the next level.
