About ten years ago, a young man by the name Duncan Okechukwu, better known by the stage name Duncan Mighty aka Wene Mighty, stormed the Nigerian music scene with an Anambra-born album that houses many hit tracks including Dance For Me and Akonuche which inspired Five Star Music General Kcee’s trending highlife single, Akonuche. His reign however didn’t last long as he stopped dropping songs. His fans started wondering what could have happened to such an unbelievable talent. I wondered too. Finally, few months ago, he returned not just to music but to the forefront of the Nigerian music scene. I will tell you how.
Nigerian pop king Wizkid wanted a smash. The Starboy could have chosen from many other talented Nigerian artistes but he didn’t want just a talent, he wanted a huge talent with whom he could create a timeless record. He finally settled for Duncan Mighty. They went into the studio for Fake Love recording. Duncan Mighty did not disappoint as he blessed Fake Love into a chart-topper. Since then, the Highlife singer has evolved into one of the most sought after musicians in Nigeria. In the space of two months, he has featured on Reekado Banks’ Bio Bio and Masterkraft’s Low Waist which are hit and trending jams.
It is now clear his disappearance into oblivion for many years was a choice and was probably distracted by other interests.
