Is Adekunle Gold Finally Leaving Olamide’s YBNL Nation?

About a couple of months to the release of Adekunle Gold’s Gold album last year, it was rumoured…No. The singer confirmed himself he would leave his record label, YBNL Nation, after the release of the album. June came, album dropped but Adekunle did not leave. Subsequently, he released on the platform a number of visuals for tracks on the album. These include popular videos as Ariko Ko, My Life and Friend Zone.

He dropped a new single titled Only Girl about a week ago. Though released from the stable of YBNL, the new tune was produced by Leeka Beats, a producer he has never worked with since he started singing. This also came at a time very close to the expiration of his renewed record deal. Since the inception of his music career with YBNL, almost all his songs were produced by the label’s in-house producers, Pheelz and Young John.

I know it is not totally strange for an artiste to choose a producer outside his record label as some artistes have done this in the past. Despite the availability of super talented in-house producer Fresh, Davido Music Worldwide act, Mayorkun, employed the service of Masterkraft for his new single, Sade and if you remember, he chose veteran producer Puffy Tee for his monster 2016 debut hit single, Eleko. Why Adekunle’s choice of Leeka Beats is suspicious is that the choice came at a time very near the expiration of his record deal.

Could it be that Young John and Pheelz were too busy with other artistes or stuffs they could not produce for their own? I don’t think so. Why would the singer choose Leeka over these two magically fingered award-winning beat makers? Is it the case that the Alternative singer thinks these producer-label mates are not the best for the kind of instrumentation he desires for the type of music he serves us? Maybe. Could it be that he is just tired of the record label? Will he renew his deal when the time comes?

I may be wrong but it seems to me the talented singer is just waiting for the contract to be over. I don’t think he will.
