In a couple of days, we step out of the month of October into a new month- November. It is only fair we look back and give special recognition to the jams that made October so much fun. Although, more than one hundred dope jams have been released so far this month, I will only highlight the top 20 Nigerian songs of the month so that I don’t bore you with an ‘Epistle’.
These super hot records are the most streamed and downloaded in October, 2018. While some of them currently rock our airwaves, night clubs and streets, some rank high on Nigerian music charts. Check out below, the top 20 Nigerian songs of the month of October, 2018.
There is no need to write much about international Nigerian pop star Wizkid’s trending chart-topper Fever which was released on the first day of October. The Blaq Jerzee-produced jam was so hot the announcement of the release of the video made fans run to YouTube to watch. And in just twenty four hours after release, it had been viewed two million times. Fever, no doubt, is the biggest among the top 20 Nigerian songs for October, 2018.
An hour after the release of Fever, Wizkid dropped Master Groove which is a powerful, highly groovy Afrobeat/ Calypso-laced banger. It’s currently doing excellently well on many reliable music charts across Africa and beyond.
The last time indigenous rap lord Phyno and super skillful beat maker Tspize teamed up, ‘problem’ was birthed. Their latest collaboration, Iwa, which features Tekno is one great melody that blows you away at first-listen.
For weeks, Flyboy INC’s boss Kizz Daniel ‘tormented’ us severally with the news that his new signee Demmie Vee was about to drop a bomb- You Go Wait. The jam finally came through this month and trust me, the Killertunes-produced record is worth the wait. It is presently on our airwaves.
For years, Usual Suspekt act, Dammy Krane, battled irrelevance only for him to return to the Nigerian music scene about two months ago with Go Down which is trending everywhere as I write. While this was buzzing, the talented singer, this month, told us with Amen that he is here to stay this time. Amen is not only a dope record but also topped iTunes Nigeria chart about two weeks ago.
At a time his fans were getting worried about his seeming disappearance from the forefront of the Nigerian music scene, rapper Ice Prince, served Yawa ft. Peruzzi which has, since release, pervaded our airwaves.
Singer, Barry Jay, rose to prominence few months ago with Aiye. And while that was buzzing on our airwaves, he fired a Dancehall-laced hit, Don Pablo which affirms his versatility and immense talent. Watch out for Don Pablo!
Last year, Wizkid teamed up with some super talented acts for smash, Soco, that had every Nigerian chanting ‘soco soco’. One of the co-singers of Soco, Spotless, came through this month, with The Benz ft. Tekno. The banging tune shares the same rhythm and vibe with Soco and it is now everywhere.
LRR boss, Reminisce, delights us at least once in a year, with an upbeat banger that would force you off your seat to the dance floor. The talented Afro Hip-Hop star whose Problem is still banging, earlier this month, served Burushaga which has been widely accepted by the ‘Street’ and night clubs.
This month, Cuppy came through with a totally different sound, Werk ft. Skuki, whose video now has hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube. This club banger is surely one of the top 20 Nigerian songs for October, 2018.
Dance song/ Afro-Dancehall producer, Popito, who is responsible for a number of Orezi’s and Skales’ hit tracks teamed up with the latter in October for Gbana that is currently ‘causing trouble’ at parties and night clubs.
Difference Entertainment boss, D’Tunes, has really done well for himself this year. The talented beat maker who was in oblivion for many years returned few months ago with super dope singles as Skibobo, Simbobo and Kolesi. He ends the year with a team-up with Soco co-singer Terri and Immediately crooner Mystro, for great Afro-Calypso melody, Chika Bonita, which is busy climbing speedily, to the top of many Nigerian music charts.
In January, Davido Music Worldwide’s official disc jockey DJ ECool, put out a powerful love song, Ada, which still buzzes on our radio airwaves. Few days ago, the talented DJ unleashed another smash, 4U ft. Peruzzi & Davido. The massive acceptance the brand new joint has received within a short space of time, is really impressive which makes it one of the dopest records released in the month of October, 2018.
A couple of days ago, Urban Highlife king Mr Flavour N’abania, finally released the then highly anticipated collaboration with Yemi Alade, Crazy Love. Despite its newness, the Spellz-produced Highlife melody, has been streamed, downloaded and viewed by tens of thousands of people across different music platforms in Nigeria.
Our anxiety was finally put to an end earlier in the month as the highly anticipated debut album of Rasaki Music act L.A.X, Rasaking, dropped. A dope track Same Girl feat. Davido off the widely accepted compilation is rated one of the top 20 Nigerian songs for October, 2018.
Alapomeji Ancestral Records boss, 9ice, who battled non-recognition for several months after the heat of his comeback record Living Things cooled down, returned big in October with his great melody, Mercy.
